The sparks flew among Syrians in a German course

A language course ended in the morning in Vienna-Favoriten with a rescue operation and criminal charges. The reason: a young Syrian woman was verbally harassed by fellow countrymen, which subsequently led to a brawl. When the police arrived, the father and brother were still attacking the officers. 

Together with her mother (33), a young Syrian woman (16) was attending a German course at a center for language courses in Favoriten. Instead of learning, two men (23, 29), who also come from Syria, made eye contact with the 16-year-old and quickly became abusive.

Mother intervened
The young woman felt verbally harassed. The mother took her daughter's side. A heated argument ensued, which ended in a brawl. Both the mother and the two men suffered injuries.

Criminal charges against all involved
One of the alleged perpetrators had to be given emergency medical treatment by the ambulance service and taken to hospital. The police arrived. Criminal charges were filed against all four of those involved. But that was not enough. While the police were investigating the case, the young woman's brother (15) and father (36) suddenly turned up.

The 15-year-old was extremely aggressive towards the officers. And the 36-year-old attacked a policewoman for reasons as yet unknown. Both uniformed officers were nevertheless able to continue their duties.

Serious bodily harm
The young man faces administrative charges. "The 36-year-old was provisionally arrested on suspicion of attempted resistance to state authority and attempted grievous bodily harm", explains police spokesman Mattias Schuster.
