Truck caught fire after crashing into ditch

Spectacular accident on Friday in Nassereith (Imst district). Probably due to inappropriate speed, a Ukrainian (58) crashed his truck into a ditch on the Mieminger Straße. A short time later, the vehicle caught fire. The driver was able to get out of the truck in time with the help of other road users.

The accident occurred on Friday at around 9.20 pm. The Ukrainian was driving his truck on the Mieminger Straße in the direction of the Fernpass. In a right-hand bend, he probably lost control of his vehicle due to inappropriate speed.

He skidded into the oncoming lane and then crashed into a ditch next to the road. He also crashed into a concrete element of a waterway. A good ten minutes after the accident, the truck started to burn.

Driver probably escaped with a scare
The 58-year-old was lucky: other road users helped him to get out of the vehicle. When the Nassereith volunteer fire department arrived, the truck was already fully engulfed in flames. The driver was uninjured, but was taken to Zams district hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. The road was closed for a good 45 minutes.
