Public prosecutor now investigating Klaus Luger

Following the resignation of Linz Mayor Klaus Luger (SPÖ) as a result of the Brucknerhaus scandal, the public prosecutor's office is now investigating him. An investigation has been initiated into the affair, the Linz prosecution authorities confirmed on Wednesday. 

The public prosecutor's office sees an initial suspicion that the former mayor of Linz misused public funds.

Affair surrounding Luger drew wide circles
The police have been tasked with investigating the processes and obtaining the necessary documents, it said. They will then question the accused as well as any persons providing information.

Luger had announced his resignation almost two weeks ago. Three days earlier, he had admitted that, as mayor, he had sent "general" questions to Dietmar Kerschbaum, the now former artistic director of the Brucknerhaus, before his hearing.

Luger had denied this for months and even had an expert look for the leak that had passed on the information. The affair surrounding Luger spread far and wide, and SPÖ leader Andreas Babler felt compelled to put his foot down.
