Armed man flees with tens of thousands of euros

The search for a robbery at a postal partner in Winklern (Carinthia) on Saturday morning has now been discontinued. However, the perpetrator is still on the run.

A "Krone reader", who was driving on the B100 in Lendorf near Spittal, reported that several police patrols armed with assault rifles were constantly checking the traffic. The traffic jam stretches as far as Möllbrücke.

According to initial information, the perpetrator, who had stolen several tens of thousands of euros, managed to escape. When unlocking the store, he is said to have chased a female employee and threatened her with a knife. She was forced to put cash in a rucksack. According to police spokeswoman Lisa Sandrieser, it is still unclear whether the perpetrator was able to flee on foot or by car.

The Cobra task force, the rapid reaction forces (SRK) and the Libelle police helicopter as well as a team of service dogs were deployed. "The alert search has been discontinued, but a local search is still ongoing," says Sandrieser. The police checks on the access roads have also been discontinued.

Perpetrator chose the best time
"The perpetrator did it cleverly. We have half the frequency in Winklern at this time of year," explains Mayor Johann Thaler. Ten years ago, the robber would not have chosen this location. "It was much busier then and there were even more stores. Now there are hardly any people out and about at this time of year and there is much less traffic," says the mayor. This also made it easy to escape.
