Zverev moves on – now an explosive US Open duel awaits

Alexander Zverev advanced to the quarter-finals at the US Open. The German defeated the American Brandon Nakashima 3:6, 6:1, 6:2 and 6:2. An explosive duel now awaits.

Zverev is only three wins away from his first Grand Slam title, his declared goal. "I'm doing everything I can for it. I'll give it my all, hopefully I'll get there at some point in my career," he said, looking ahead to Sunday after his 450th win on the tour.

The semi-final is against Taylor Fritz (No. 12). The American overcame the Norwegian Casper Ruud 3:6, 6:4, 6:3 and 6:2. The head-to-head is 5:4 in Zverev's favor, Fritz had last won in the Wimbledon round of 16. 

"Victory for the girls"
Afterwards, Morgan Riddle, the lady of Fritz's heart, teased Zverev. She posted a video on social media and wrote: "When your man wins for the girls." However, she deleted the post just a few minutes later.

It was probably a reference to Zverev's ex-girlfriends, who had accused the tennis star of domestic violence over the past four years. However, the Berlin district court in Tiergarten ruled that Zverev was innocent. The proceedings were discontinued in exchange for a fine.
