Silvretta High Alpine Road has been mired again

It was only on July 13th that a huge mudslide occurred on the high alpine road in Vorarlberg and displaced the road. On Friday evening, another rock and mud avalanche broke loose. The clean-up work had to be stopped as a result. 

As explained by Illwerke VKW, another mudslide occurred on the Silvretta High Alpine Road on Friday evening as a result of heavy rainfall - again between bends 13 and 14. A mudslide had already occurred at the same location on July 13 .

Fortunately, nobody was injured in Friday's incident either. However, three excavators that were on site for the ongoing clean-up work were partially buried.

External geologists and experts from the road operator Illwerke VKW came to see the extent of the damage on Friday. It is still unclear what the next steps will be. In any case, the shuttle service for hikers will no longer be offered until further notice. The lakeside path around Lake Silvretta and the hiking trail from Partenen to the Bielerhöhe are also closed.
