Pilot caught smuggling in migrants

A pilot in Lower Bavaria has brought four migrants across the German border without permission. The federal police have already found three of them and are still searching for a fourth.

The 39-year-old pilot landed unannounced with a Cessna in Pfarrkirchen (Rottal-Inn district) on Sunday, the police reported. They were informed of the incident by a flight instructor. When the officers arrived, they found three Iraqi nationals. They had no identification with them.

Overcrowded plane
Despite a helicopter search, the police were unable to find another person. According to initial findings, the plane took off from Bulgaria and flew to Germany via Hungary and Austria.

Moreover, it was not registered for five, but only four people. For this reason, the German authorities are now also investigating the pilot for smuggling under threat to life. The smuggled Iraqis were arrested and charged with unauthorized entry.
