On Sunday night, a 53-year-old man and his ex-girlfriend had a violent argument in a stairwell in Vienna-Penzing. When the 53-year-old left the house a short time later, he was attacked by a 41-year-old with a knife.

The 53-year-old was already shouting in the stairwell at around 1 am. A violent argument then broke out between the two in his ex-girlfriend's apartment. He slightly injured the woman.

Attacked in the street
When he stormed out of the house shortly afterwards, he was intercepted on the street by a 41-year-old man. The latter attacked the 53-year-old with a knife and punched him several times.

Witness statements led to the suspect
Attentive passers-by immediately alerted the police. The emergency services came across the seriously injured man. However, there was no trace of the suspect. An immediate manhunt was launched, but this was initially unsuccessful. A short time later, the officers were able to locate the 41-year-old in his apartment on the basis of witness statements and arrest him provisionally. The possible murder weapon was also seized.

The 53-year-old is currently in hospital. According to the police, his life is not in danger. The investigation is ongoing. The suspects' motive for the crime is still unclear.
