Residents and police officers injured in asylum center

In an asylum shelter in the district of Völkermarkt, a drunk Syrian seriously injured another resident on Friday evening. The 24-year-old also attacked the police officers who intervened.

At around 6.15 pm on Friday, the argument between the intoxicated Syrian and a 55-year-old stateless man in a shelter for asylum seekers in Bad Eisenkappel escalated to such an extent that the 24-year-old inflicted a serious eye injury on his opponent. The injured man then had to be taken to Klagenfurt Hospital by the ambulance service.

The Syrian also behaved aggressively and uncooperatively towards the intervening officers. "He had to be provisionally arrested and a police officer was slightly injured," according to the provincial police headquarters.

The 24-year-old was banned from entering and approaching the police station and taken to the police detention center in Klagenfurt. He will be charged.
