Hay bale fell on Tyrolean farmer – seriously injured

A terrible accident at work on Wednesday evening in Leutasch in the Tyrolean district of Innsbruck-Land: a bale of hay that had started rolling on a suspended ceiling fell into the barn and hit a 51-year-old farmer. The man suffered serious injuries and had to be flown by helicopter to the hospital in Innsbruck.

At around 8 p.m., the 51-year-old farmer was busy feeding the animals in the feed alley of his barn in Leutasch. Suddenly it happened!

A round bale of hay that had been placed on the intermediate floor, which is used to store feed, seems to have started moving for unknown reasons. It rolled over the edge of the ceiling and crashed into the barn.

Hit and flung away
The farmer, who was in the area of the feeding table below, was hit by the hay bale and thrown to the ground.

After receiving first aid, the 51-year-old was flown to Innsbruck Hospital by emergency helicopter.
