Space for 100 inmates
Correctional facility in Göllersdorf becomes “fit for the future”
The Göllersdorf prison in the Weinviertel region will be modernized and further expanded from 2026. In future, it will be able to accommodate an additional 100 inmates.
One hundred additional places for inmates are to be available at Göllersdorf prison in the district of Hollabrunn in future. In addition to the expansion of the forensic-therapeutic center in the Weinviertel region, the existing prison area is also being renovated and modernized. Under the motto "modern, innovative, sustainable", 19 architectural firms competed for the contract with their future-proof plans as part of a competition.
The architectural firm Franz und Sue ZT GmbH came out on top. "The project is a sign of the ongoing modernization of the justice system. In this way, we are creating modern, secure accommodation that is humane and complies with fundamental rights, as well as good working conditions for the staff," explains Justice Minister Alma Zadić. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026.
Former castle adapted
Offenders with serious and long-term mental illness have been housed in the former Göllersdorf Castle since 1985.
