Car hit during overtaking maneuver

A 37-year-old woman from Klagenfurt was driving her car on the B85 from St. Margareten towards Ferlach on Wednesday morning. Behind her was a 27-year-old man from the district of Klagenfurt Land driving his car, in front of her was a white van with a tarpaulin. The accident happened during an overtaking maneuver. 

In the Laak area, the driver of the van wanted to turn right and slowed down. The woman from Klagenfurt reduced her speed, set her blinker to the left, but did not intend to overtake the van, but wanted to turn into a forest road. At the same time, the 27-year-old, who was driving behind the woman, started to overtake both vehicles in front of him. While overtaking, the 27-year-old hit the Klagenfurt woman's car, which was about to turn off.

Both vehicles left the road. The Klagenfurt woman's car was partially crushed and came to rest in the ditch. The white van continued its journey without stopping. The 27-year-old immediately alerted the emergency services. He tried to free the woman from her vehicle, but was unsuccessful. The woman was able to get out of the car herself via the passenger door.

She received initial treatment from two first responders and the C11 emergency doctor and was taken to Klagenfurt University Hospital by the ambulance with undetermined injuries. The 27-year-old remained uninjured. Both parties tested negative for alcohol. Both vehicles sustained considerable material damage.
