Small truck with animals on board pulled out of traffic
A Romanian small truck and trailer were pulled out of traffic during priority checks in Lower Austria due to imminent danger. The driver had cigarettes and young animals in his luggage.
In the course of priority checks, officers stopped a Romanian road train consisting of a small truck and a light trailer. The police officers found technical defects with imminent danger. The onward journey was ultimately prohibited. The officers also discovered 43 cartons of cigarettes in the engine compartment.
But that was not all. Three young cats and a puppy were also hidden among the luggage. The animals are said to have come from the Ukraine. According to a police statement, the documents and vaccinations they were carrying did not meet the requirements. The four-legged friends were confiscated by order of the official veterinarian and taken to the St. Pölten animal shelter for the time being.
122 vehicles defective
The Romanian small truck was noticed as part of a focus operation carried out at the A1 rest stop in St. Pölten and at a company parking lot in Loosdorf in the district of Melk. 122 vehicles were checked. A total of 264 serious technical defects were found in 78 vehicles. There was imminent danger in 36 cases.
