Drunk driver (28) rammed into cars and overturned

Spectacular traffic accident on Saturday evening in East Tyrol: A drunk driver (28) lost control of his car in Kartitsch, crashed into two vehicles and overturned. The local man's car ultimately came to a standstill on its roof.

The devastating accident happened shortly before 9 pm. The 28-year-old local man was driving on the B111 Gailtalstraße when he first hit a car parked on the right-hand side of the road. The force of the impact caused his car to skid and onto the oncoming lane.

The skidding vehicle finally came to a halt 30 meters further on, lying on its roof on the Gailtalstraße.

"There it touched the oncoming car of an 18-year-old. The skidding vehicle finally came to a halt lying on its roof on the Gailtalstraße 30 meters further on," reported the police. 

Driver heavily intoxicated
The 28-year-old driver was able to free himself from the badly damaged car lying on its roof. "After first aid at the scene of the accident, the injured man was taken to Lienz district hospital by ambulance," the investigators continued. A breathalyzer test carried out on him revealed that he was "heavily intoxicated".

Gailtal road closed for a short time
The driver of the other car and his companion (43) were uninjured. However, his car was severely damaged. The B111 was only passable with difficulty in the area of the accident until 10.15 pm. It even had to be completely closed for a short time.
