24-year-old dies in head-on crash in the Weinviertel region

A tragic accident on the "old Brünnerstraße" in the district of Mistelbach (Lower Austria), which runs parallel to the A5, claimed one life and injured five people at the weekend - including a four-year-old child and an eleven-month-old baby.

Two cars crashed head-on into each other on the B7. All help came too late for a 24-year-old driver from the district of Korneuburg. The young man succumbed to his injuries on the spot. His 23-year-old partner and their two children, aged four years and eleven months, were flown by emergency helicopter to the intensive care units of Mistelbach Hospital, SMZ Ost and Vienna General Hospital with serious injuries.

According to the latest information, the doctors are desperately fighting for life - especially for the youngest occupants of the car. 

Emergency doctor on duty
The 46-year-old driver of the other car involved in the accident with Viennese license plates and his 37-year-old passenger also received emergency medical treatment and were subsequently taken to hospital. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Thrown into the ditch
The force of the collision caused both vehicles to be thrown into the ditch. Three emergency doctor helicopters and countless rescue workers were deployed.

Update: FF-Peers on site for psychological help
The horrific images were very stressful for the firefighters: according to the latest information, the very demanding operation was subsequently processed together by "FF-Peers" (first point of contact for firefighters after stressful operations, even before a psychologist can be called in).
