Amateur marksmen caused panic in Lustenau

The police had to be deployed in Lustenau early on Wednesday evening after a passer-by reported that two men were handling weapons in public. The background was quite bizarre.  

At around 6 p.m., the Bregenz regional control center received a call stating that two people were handling firearms at the Montfortstraße/Rheindorfstraße intersection in Lustenau - but the witness said that they could just be toy weapons. In the course of an immediately initiated search, two men with weapons were indeed found at the location in question.

In the course of the investigation, it quickly emerged that the two had been shooting at cans with an air rifle in order to shoot them for a tournament. The weapons in question were a CO2 pistol and a so-called soft-air rifle.

A provisional weapons ban was issued against the two hobby shooters and charges were also filed for disorderly conduct.
