Bus terminal planned
Bus terminal for the Liesertal
A new concept is intended to reduce the traffic chaos in Gmünd, attract tourists to the main square and contribute to a more attractive townscape. Construction starts with the new Spar branch.
Buses in the artists' town of Gmünd often cause traffic jams and sometimes dangerous situations (we reported). Those responsible want to remedy the situation and unanimously approved the construction of a bus terminal at the most recent municipal council meeting. "There are traffic jams every hour because of the junction on the main square. We want to relieve congestion in the city center with a bus terminal that will be built near the Gmünd police station," explains Gmünd Deputy Mayor Philipp Schober.
In future, the transfer from one bus line to the other will take place in the suburbs. "The stops on the main square and at the elementary school will remain."
New entrance to the city
The entrance to the city is also to be slightly relocated and enlarged - for a "more prominent and attractive entrance to the city in the direction of the city gate". The aim is to attract more tourists to the main square. "And, of course, the residents will also be involved in the new main square design," say the municipal representatives.
The whole thing is to take place in the course of the construction of the new Eurospar branch. "Work on the new Spar should be completed this fall or in spring 2025."
