Over 69 kilometers
Innerhofer finished on the podium in “brutal” heat
It was already very warm in Salzburg at the weekend. But it was even hotter in Istria. That's exactly where Hans-Peter Innerhofer ran the longest race distance of his career and mentally fought through it.
"I suffered brutally with the heat," puffed mountain runner Hans-Peter Innerhofer after the race in Istria. 69 kilometers - the man from Pinzgau had never run that long in a race before. And yet in the end he was only beaten by Simon Gosselin. "I'm super happy with my place," Innerhofer beamed.
The last 20 kilometers in particular were a mental challenge for the 29-year-old, as he told the "Krone": "You were running through knee-high grass through the pampas." Brother Manuel is already back in training after an injury, but didn't want to take on such a long run just yet.
