Farm store serial thieves caught during inspection

Since last December, two Romanians had been up to mischief in farm stores in Carinthia and Styria. Now the police have caught them.

The two Romanian nationals, aged 37 and 39, had been active as farm shop thieves for several months within a considerable radius. They not only struck at self-service stores in the districts of Völkermarkt and Wolfsberg, but also in the Styrian districts of Weiz and Ilz, which are around 100 kilometers (north)east of Graz.

Arrest after vehicle check
"The damage caused by the thefts amounts to several thousand euros. Officers from Eberndorf police station have now been able to track down the two Romanian nationals," reports the police. "On Tuesday, they were provisionally arrested during a vehicle check." While the 39-year-old was taken to the Klagenfurt police detention center after the investigations were completed, the 37-year-old was taken to prison - the Graz regional court had issued an arrest warrant for him.

"An immediate ban on residence and return was issued against both persons," the police explain further. "They will be reported to the public prosecutor's office in Klagenfurt."
