Red Bull Salzburg celebrates after a crazy comeback
Defending champions Red Bull Salzburg celebrated a 4-3 win over HCB Südtirol on Sunday evening despite trailing 3-0 and are now leading the semi-final series 2-1. The KAC, meanwhile, already has one foot in the final. The team from Klagenfurt defeated HC Pustertal 3:1 and took a 3:0 lead in the series.
In Klagenfurt, Manuel Ganahl put the Red Jackets ahead in the first power play (3rd). In the middle of the final period, the underdogs from South Tyrol equalized through Alex Petan (49), but the Carinthians quickly countered. Matt Fraser (51) and Thomas Vallant (54) gave the record champions the match puck for Tuesday.
Salzburg turn up the heat in the middle third
Salzburg avoided a second home defeat in the duel between last year's two finalists thanks to an outstanding middle third. The Foxes from Bolzano led 3-0 after a strong and efficient first period thanks to goals from Pascal Brunner (3rd), Joshua Teves (9th) and Brad McClure (14th).
The Red Bulls showed a completely different face in the middle third and really turned up the heat. Benjamin Nissner (27th), Mario Huber (29th/PP), Troy Bourke (32nd) and Drake Rymsha (34th) fired Salzburg into the lead with four goals in seven minutes. The South Tyroleans found their way back into the game in the final third, but were unable to beat goalkeeper Atte Tolvanen.
