Ski flying: Huber leads after the first round
The decision in the Ski Flying World Cup will only be made in the last competition on Sunday. Stefan Kraft's lead shrank significantly after seventh place in Planica. However, the newly crowned overall World Cup winner still leads by 34 points ahead of Friday's victorious local hero Peter Prevc. While the Slovenian celebrated his first victory in over four years in the penultimate individual competition of his career, Daniel Huber just missed out on victory in second place.
Huber (232 m/224 m) was ultimately 3.6 points behind Prevc after losing the half-time lead. "I briefly over-rotated in the flight, it's so sensitive here. Peter simply did it best today", said Huber.
He was not entirely serious about Prevc's almost cheesy victory (237.5/231) at the end of his career: "I thought it would be better for the story if Peter won another one here." Despite narrowly missing out on victory, the man from Salzburg was not disappointed. "That fits very well. My three-podium series is brilliant, unbelievable," said Huber, who recently finished second and first in Vikersund.
Highly exciting final
Kraft, who was also crowned winner of the big crystal globe in Norway with one victory and one second place, did not have ideal flights (216.5/216) and was somewhat at a loss. "None of the jumps felt anything like cool," said the 13-time winner of the season. Kraft is expecting a highly exciting final. "It will be very close, Peter jumps very well here, I still had a bit of trouble. Maybe we'll have to make some changes to the equipment, but I'll try to enjoy it anyway."
Huber is also 47 points behind Kraft and still has a chance of winning the small crystal globe. Before the final event, a team competition is on the program on Saturday. The second-best Austrian in the first individual competition was Daniel Tschofenig in sixth place, just ahead of Kraft.
