Man injured in elevator accident in Bavaria

A man suffered several broken bones in an elevator accident in Middle Franconia, Bavaria. After a short ride, the elevator sank and went down about three to four meters into the basement without braking. There it finally crashed, as the police reported on Friday.

The 67-year-old man had wanted to take the elevator to the second floor of a medical center in Neustadt an der Aisch. He suffered several broken bones in the accident. Firefighters rescued him and the German was then taken to hospital.

The cause of the accident was initially unclear. A police spokesperson said that a technical defect had been assumed so far. The elevator was regularly serviced and also had a valid TÜV certificate.
