"Not acceptable"
Curious! F1 driver has to give teammate the car
Curious! Because Williams does not have a replacement chassis available in Australia, the racing team can only field one car this weekend, which will be driven by Alexander Albon. The US American Logan Sargeant had to give up his seat.
Albon lost control of his car in turn six during the first practice session on Friday and crashed into the track wall. He demolished his car in the process, but was able to get out on his own. After an interruption of around ten minutes for recovery work, practice resumed. Albon missed the second session.
But it gets worse: Williams does not have a replacement chassis. The Formula 1 racing team has now decided that Logan Sargeant will have to give his car to his team-mate Albon. "The team can confirm that it has taken the decision that Alex will race for the rest of the weekend with the chassis that Logan Sargeant drove in FP1 and FP2," it said in a statement.
Team boss exercises self-criticism
"It is not acceptable in today's Formula 1 to not have a replacement chassis. But it reflects the shortfall we had over the winter and it shows why we need to make a fundamental change to put ourselves in a better position for the future," said Williams team boss James Vowles self-critically.
