Attack with corner flag
Viennese attacked: Girlfriend’s “heart stopped”
Ugly scenes took place on Sunday in the Turkish Süper Lig. Mert Müldür, a former Rapid professional, was at the center of the riots between Trabzonspor fans and Fenerbahce players. The Vienna-born player (who played for Hütteldorfer from 2013 to 2019) was attacked with a corner flag, and his girlfriend has now spoken out on Instagram.
"My heart stopped for a minute. I had no words," Koprena Andjela wrote in her story. "I'm so grateful that everyone is safe," the 26-year-old captioned another video showing the riots.
Fenerbahce had taken a 3:2 lead in the 87th minute of the game through Michy Batshuayi, with his team-mate Müldür coming onto the pitch a few minutes later.
Reappraisal announced
Even though the 24-year-old's substitution did not change the score, he was still a victim of the rioting. An angry supporter of the home side armed with a corner flag attacked Müldür, who just managed to escape into the players' tunnel. The Turkish Football Association has already announced an investigation into the incident and criminal sanctions, and at least twelve people have been arrested so far.
