Because of savings plans
Mayors threaten Raika with account closure
The planned closure of seven Raiffeisen Traisen-Gölsental bank branches has caused a stir, particularly in the district of Lilienfeld. Now the mayors of the affected municipalities are shifting up a gear - and threatening the bank with the closure of their accounts.
The news that Raiffeisen Traisen-Gölsental intends to close seven branches in the districts of St. Pölten and Lilienfeld in one fell swoop hit the affected communities like a bombshell. Resistance to the plans immediately formed among the mayors.
We are now appealing to the Raiffeisen Supervisory Board to reconsider the decision, otherwise the communities will close their accounts and savings books.

Protest notes in every store
After an initial note of protest, the heads of the towns of St. Aegyd, Hohenberg, Türnitz, Traisen, St. Veit, Kleinzell and St. Georgen are now getting serious. Not only have they launched a large-scale signature campaign against the austerity plan - a corresponding list is available in every store in every town and can also be found on the Internet.
What's more, in an open letter to those responsible at the Raiffeisen Group, signed by representatives of all seven municipalities, they are calling for a board meeting to be convened within 14 days.
If there is no change of heart, the mayors want to stop all business with Raika and cancel accounts and savings books.
