News for money?
Serious accusations against transfer insider Romano!
Fabrizio Romano has made a name for himself as a transfer expert in the soccer business in recent years. Now he is being confronted with serious accusations.
As the Danish sports portal "Tipsbladet" reports, Romano and his company are alleged to have offered coverage in exchange for money. According to the report, Romano and his team contacted clubs and consultants and received payments in exchange for reporting on certain players.
The background to the allegations was a post about the 18-year-old Swede Roony Bardghji, who would not extend his 2025 contract with FC Copenhagen. The club denied this information. Danish journalist Bager Thogersen then investigated Romano's entourage. "I know that he is celebrated like a god on social media. But I have to say that he very often gets his information from players' agents and acts as a mouthpiece for their agenda," said Thogersen.
"That's not journalism"
It is said to have been the same with Bardghji. "In this particular case, it looks like the player's entourage wants to send a message to put pressure on FC Copenhagen. You can't call that journalism," explained the Danish reporter.
He continued: "So you have to take what he says with a grain of salt. It's a business where clubs and agents have to pay for advertising, and that can never be called journalism. What is supposed to look like journalism is instead driven by purely commercial interests."
Up to 6000 dollars
You can be mentioned in a tweet for around 1000 dollars. For 6000 dollars even in a video. Romano has already had to listen to similar accusations in the past, but he denied commercial intentions behind his work. "I don't want to sell fake news, that's not my mentality. I don't want to sell dreams, I just want to explain what's really happening on the transfer market. It's not about me," said the 31-year-old.
Very high reach
Romano deserves credit for the fact that many of his predictions have come true. The Italian is one of the most influential sports journalists in soccer with the widest reach. His Twitter profile alone is followed by 20 million people. He also runs his own podcast, has a YouTube and Twitch channel and is active on Facebook and TikTok.
