Vice-Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) sharply criticizes the decision of the federal states to distance themselves from the government's 2.5 hectare target in the land strategy: "It is called a land of fields and not of unnecessary parking spaces", he said on "ZiB2", calling it a "time for a change".

On Thursday, the federal states decided to go it alone and adopted their own strategy, abandoning the binding target of a maximum of 2.5 hectares of net land use per day from 2030. The Association of Local Authorities had also opposed this target.

"Just because you can find the platform, that's not an achievement."

Vizekanzler Werner Kogler (Grüne)

Kogler is not particularly impressed by the agreement between the federal states: "Anyone can decide anything." The Vice-Chancellor does not think it is a bad thing that the federal states have presented plans of their own, but clearly expects action: "Just because you find the platform is not an achievement, sorry governors".

Kogler hopes for pressure from the population
However, Kogler is optimistic that pressure from the public and the media will ultimately be enough: "In the end, the provinces will have to give in."

After all, in the interests of the population, it cannot continue to be the case that areas continue to be used or even concreted over.
