Blocked for 30 minutes
Climate stickers and orchestra on the Brenner highway
After the traffic chaos on the Brenner highway on Friday due to the heavy snowfall, drivers had to show patience again on Saturday. Last generation climate stickers blocked the A13 southbound in the morning. The activists were supported by the StreetNoise Orchestra.
According to a police spokesperson, the 20 or so activists occupied the Brenner highway from 10.20 am. Together with the StreetNoise Orchestra, the climate stickers once again demanded familiar things: for example, a speed limit of 100 km/h on freeways throughout Austria, the phasing out of oil and gas and the implementation of the targets drawn up by the Climate Council.
According to the police spokesperson, the protest lasted around 30 minutes, until 10.50 am. The resulting traffic jam then gradually began to clear.
Tyrol's FPÖ leader calls for tougher penalties
"The climate activists must finally be stopped using every conceivable means," said Tyrol's FPÖ leader Markus Abwerzger in anger. "Are they actually still doing well? We have vacation traffic jams and in the central Tyrol we currently have the highest risk of avalanches, what would have happened if emergency services had urgently needed the highway?" He calls on Justice Minister Alma Zadić to impose tougher penalties.
