Firefighter (73) seriously injured in forestry accident
The next serious forestry accident in Styria: On Tuesday, a Styrian man was hit on the upper body and injured by a tree trunk while working in a forest in Altenberg an der Rax (municipality of Neuberg an der Mürz) in the district of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag.
The Altenberg an der Rax and Neuberg an der Mürz volunteer fire departments were called to the accident in the forest shortly after 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Particularly challenging for the "Florianis": the casualty was a member of the volunteer fire department.
The 73-year-old local man had been carrying out forestry work. He was hit on the upper body by a tree trunk. The rope used to move the felled trees may have become entangled.
Helicopter operation
The man from Mürztal managed to contact a family member who, according to the police, then set the rescue chain in motion.
After first aid, the man was taken away on a stretcher and finally flown to the regional hospital in Neunkirchen (Lower Austria) with undetermined injuries by the crew of the ÖAMTC rescue helicopter C3.
