0:1! Union even lose against bottom club Kiel

1. FC Union Berlin are now finally facing relegation in Germany's Bundesliga! The "Irons" conceded their third defeat in a row on Sunday with a 1-0 home draw against Holstein Kiel.

Armin Gigović scored the goal that gave Holstein their first ever Bundesliga away win in the 42nd minute. ÖFB defender Leopold Querfeld played in the center of defense for the Berliners, Christopher Trimmel was not used. Six points separate 14th-placed Union from 16th place, which would mean relegation. Kiel moved up one position from last place and are now 17th.

It was the next setback for the Berliners after a legal defeat during the week. On Friday, the DFB Federal Court rejected the appeal against the decision to score the scandalous match in December between Berlin and VfL Bochum (1:1) 2:0 in favor of Bochum. A Union supporter had hit VfL goalkeeper Patrick Drewes on the head with a lighter. Union now want to take the matter to the Permanent Court of Arbitration and are also considering civil action.

Freiburg fail to win once
Later that evening, SC Freiburg's winning streak in Germany's Bundesliga came to an end. After four consecutive victories, the team in fifth place in the table was held to a 0-0 draw at FC Augsburg. Philipp Lienhart played through for Freiburg, Michael Gregoritsch made a brief appearance in the final.
