“Breaks my heart!” Experienced skier misses World Ski Championships

Tommy Ford will have to miss the World Ski Championships. The 35-year-old US veteran injured his knee joint during training in Adelboden and had to undergo surgery.

This means the season is over for the giant slalom specialist. After failing to finish the second run in the World Cup RTL in Adelboden, Ford stayed in the Bernese Oberland and trained for the remaining races. "The race in Adelboden was such a pleasure. There's just something about this place and the people that feels special. The speed and flow I could feel on the first run reminded me of previous years," Ford wrote on Instagram.

But then the bad news. "Two days later, I crashed during training on the same slope and injured my knee. The injury was so bad that I had to have an operation. The rest of me feels fine. It breaks my heart and yet I'm grateful," Ford continued.

Saalbach would have been his 6th World Championship participation
Ford would have been aiming for his sixth World Championship participation in Saalbach-Hinterglemm after 2011 (Garmisch), 2015 (Vail/Beaver Creek), 2017 (St. Moritz), 2019 (Are) and 2023 (Courchevel/Meribel).

Back in 2021, he crashed heavily in Adelboden and suffered a concussion and ligament injuries in his knee.
