Drugs taken, then man storms the post office branch

Armed with a butter knife, a man is said to have stormed a post office branch in Vienna-Ottakring on Monday. Employees then triggered the hold-up alarm. According to witnesses, the suspect was apparently confused. No wonder: the man had consumed drugs beforehand.

The 43-year-old suspect had probably already consumed illegal substances earlier in the day. At around 9 a.m., he finally walked into a post office branch in Thaliastrasse. In his hand: a butter knife, which he said he needed to defend himself. 

Threatened those present with a butter knife
Once there, the Austrian allegedly pulled out his butter knife and threatened one of the customers present as well as the branch manager. The hold-up alarm was triggered immediately, the confused man made off and fled to the opposite side of the street, where an officer arrested him a short time later. 

Suspect now in prison
"The man was charged on suspicion of making multiple dangerous threats and in accordance with the provisions of the Narcotics Act", explained police spokeswoman Anna Gutt on Tuesday. He is now in prison.
