Jannik Sinner won in two sets (6:3, 6:4) against Daniil Medvedev and knocked the Russian out of the tournament. While the South Tyrolean clearly won the "Ilie Nastase" group at the ATP Finals with three victories, the Russian in third place has to bury his semi-final hopes. Instead, the US American Taylor Fritz can rejoice.

As the confident group winner, crowd favorite and top seed Jannik Sinner will play for a place in the final at the tennis season finale in Turin. With a 6:3, 6:4 victory over the former Russian tournament winner Daniil Medvedev, the world number one also won his third group match on Thursday. Sinner advanced to the semi-finals of the ATP Finals in his home country without dropping a set.

"I'm here to win as many matches as possible," said the loudly celebrated Australian Open and US Open winner from 2024, who is still facing a ban following an acquittal and two positive doping tests. "I know what I've achieved this season. I'm just trying to enjoy the tennis here."

Next decision on Saturday
Thanks to the help of American Taylor Fritz, Sinner's place in the semi-finals had already been decided before his final singles match. US Open finalist Fritz had beaten Australian Alex de Minaur 5:7, 6:4, 6:3 to qualify for the semi-finals on Saturday as runner-up in the group.

The second group will be decided on Saturday. Alexander Zverev leads with two wins and will face the Spanish Wimbledon and French Open winner Carlos Alcaraz. Casper Ruud will play the Russian Andrei Rublev.
