The Beijing title goes to Carlos Alcaraz! The Spaniard won the thrilling dream final against world number one Jannik Sinner in three sets.

It was a match at the very highest level, without doubt one of the best finals of this tennis year. After a thriller lasting 3:21 hours, Alcaraz defeated Sinner 6:7(6), 6:4 and 7:6(3) to win his fourth title of the season.

Alcaraz on Sinner: "He's an animal"
"He could have won in two sets, I could have won in two. It was a really close match. Jannik showed once again that he's the best player in the world," said the 21-year-old Alcaraz, praising the South Tyrolean. "It was really high-quality tennis, physically and mentally, he's an animal."

Alcaraz, this year's French Open and Wimbledon champion, served for the set at 5:3 in the first set and then missed three set points before Sinner took his first chance in the tie-break at 8:6. Alcaraz then managed a break to tie the set at 6:4. The third round also went into a tie-break after a break and re-break. In this, last year's Vienna winner Sinner squandered a 3:0 lead and then didn't score another point. Unusual for Sinner, as he had won the previous 18 out of 19 tiebreaks.

Zverev overtaken
Alcaraz, who will overtake Alexander Zverev in the next ATP rankings and be second again, had also won the two previous clashes with Sinner this year. He made it 6:4 in the head-to-head.
