Google TV Streamer: New streaming box unveiled!

The US internet company Google has unveiled the successor to its Chromecast series of streaming sticks. It is a set-top box called Google TV Streamer - with more powerful internals and a higher price.

The new 4K set-top box is equipped with Google's Android TV operating system and can be customized with all kinds of apps from the Play Store. A minimalist remote control is included, so you don't have to rely on your smartphone as a control device.

The set-top box is supplied with power via USB-C, connected to the TV via HDMI 2.1 and has an Ethernet port for wired networks. Alternatively, there is WLAN (Wi-Fi 5). Wireless devices can be controlled via Bluetooth and a whole range of HDR standards are offered, including Dolby Vision, which requires a license.

Also serves as a smart home center
Google uses the increased computing power compared to the Chromecast to give the device a second purpose as a smart home control center in addition to its entertainment function. Google's AI services are also connected - and are intended to help with movie selection, for example.

The new set-top box will be launched on September 24. Compared to the very affordable Chromecast streaming stick, the price has risen considerably: Google is charging 120 euros for the new streaming box.
