Drugged driver crashes across highway with children

A drugged driver was caught by the Villach highway police on Tuesday morning. Particularly curious: the Viennese driver does not have a driver's license and also had his three small children on board.

During a routine check, officers from the highway police noticed a vehicle with a Lower Austrian test drive license plate on the Südautobahn. The police then took the car off the road. And a short time later it turned out that the officers had scored a direct hit.

During the check, it turned out that the 32-year-old driver was clearly under the influence of drugs. "Furthermore, he was unable to produce a valid driving license, as this had been revoked years ago," according to the Carinthia Provincial Police Directorate.

In addition, the Viennese man's three children (aged between eight and ten) were also in the back of the vehicle. They were lying on the folded down rear seat and were not wearing seat belts.

The officers immediately prohibited the 32-year-old from continuing his journey. He will also face charges from the public prosecutor's office in Klagenfurt and the district authority in Villach.
