Major operation for rescuers

2 seriously injured in traffic accident in Amstetten

Two cars with a total of six occupants collided head-on in St. Pantaleon-Erla in the Amstetten district on Saturday morning. Two people were seriously injured. 

It is not yet known how the collision occurred in the district of Pyburg just before the Danube bridge to Mauthausen (Upper Austria). In any case, a car with two occupants crashed head-on into a car carrying four people. A rescue helicopter took one injured person to hospital. Another person was taken away by ambulance. The remaining four occupants escaped with minor injuries.

According to the St. Pantaleon-Erla volunteer fire department, five fire departments from Lower Austria and, due to the location in the border region, also from Upper Austria were involved in the rescue operation. During the rescue operation, the busy road had to be completely closed and there was a considerable traffic jam.
