A woman was hit and killed by a train (ICE) in Berlin on Wednesday evening. A small child suffered serious injuries. It was still unclear in the evening how the accident could have happened.

As things stand, the Berlin police believe it was probably a suicide. A large contingent of police, fire and rescue services were on the scene. No details were initially given about the age of the woman and the child. According to the fire department, two people were taken to hospital, including the critically injured child.

Platform X is talking about a tragic accident at Berlin Central Station. The fire department was on site from 6.30 p.m. and provided psychosocial care for 19 people.

The background was still unclear on Wednesday evening. Eyewitnesses are now to be interviewed and video recordings analyzed. Parts of the station were closed, resulting in delays and, in some cases, cancellations. Around 300,000 people travel through Berlin Central Station every day.
