Maypole in crooked position
Storm front challenged the firefighters
Fallen trees, flooding, mudslides: Until midnight, numerous fire departments throughout Upper Austria were in action to repair the damage caused by the evening storm front.
At around 7 p.m., the storm front moved across Upper Austria with heavy rain and squalls. Wind speeds of 102 km/h were briefly measured in Kremsmünster, 91 km/h in Braunau am Inn and 88 km/h in Wolfsegg am Hausruck.
20 fire department operations
Buildings were flooded in Bad Hall and Kematen/Krems, and a roof threatened to fly off in Ranshofen. There was a minor mudslide in Niederneukirchen and the storm blew down a tree in Perg. In total, the Florianis were called out around 20 times.
Maypole threatened to topple over
The maypole in Wels Vogelweide was dangerously tilted by the strong winds. It had to be erected and secured by firefighters using a crane.
