Girlfriend’s fall convicts young drug driver

On Monday evening, a female moped rider crashed in the Innviertel region and had to be taken to hospital with injuries. During the accident investigation, however, the police became aware of the victim's boyfriend, who was also riding a moped directly behind her. He was under the influence of drugs.

At around 7.45 pm on Wednesday, a 16-year-old girl from the Braunau am Inn district was riding her moped on a local road in the municipality of Friedburg. In a right-hand bend, she left the road and crashed. She suffered injuries of indeterminate severity and was taken to Salzburg Regional Hospital by rescue helicopter. A breathalyzer test carried out at the hospital was negative.

Police officers became suspicious
Directly behind the 16-year-old girl was her 17-year-old friend on another moped. During the course of the accident investigation, the police noticed signs of drug impairment in the 17-year-old from the Braunau am Inn district.

He was taken for a clinical examination, during which he was found to be unfit to drive. As a result, his driver's license was temporarily confiscated and charges will be filed.
