Coach Zvijerac
Back in the relegation battle after team debut
Most recently he was the coach of the amateur national team - now Goran Zvijerac is set to save Landesliga stragglers Haitzendorf from relegation.
Last season, Goran Zvijerac was relegated to the 2nd national league with Spratzern. Now the 49-year-old is back in the fourth-highest division. And he is already back in the relegation battle: the UEFA Pro License coach is taking over from Gerhard Wildpert at the second-to-last team in the table. "The boys have quality and I don't really see them as relegation candidates," says the Wilhelmsburg native. Who is also team manager. You read that right. Together with Kurt Stuck and Daniel Reiter, he was most recently in charge of Austria's amateur national team.
"No idea why he's not playing for a second division team yet"
The red-white-red lower league team drew 1:1 in a test match against Slovenia. The Lower Austrian quartet of Ruso (Schrems), Fischer (Leobendorf), Neustädter Hölbing (Wr. Viktoria) and Olgun (Rohrbach) were all involved. The latter only slipped into the squad at short notice. "I brought Mehmet to Spratzern back then. I don't know why he's not yet playing for a second division club," praises Zvijerac, who was himself recommended as a coach by player advisor Otto Hauptmann.
"When you stand on the pitch and hear the anthem, it's something special," he said, fully embracing his role. Although creativity was required. "We all saw each other for the first time on the way to Ljubljana and came up with a battle plan over a coffee." Can he imagine a dual role in the future? "Of course! The Eurofeld Cup takes place in the summer, I'd love to be there."
