Significantly more winter guests than in the previous year

Last month alone, around 325,400 guests came to Vorarlberg and booked around 1.5 million overnight stays. Compared to February 2023, arrivals increased by 2.3 percent and overnight stays by 5.6 percent. This is a significant increase that can be seen throughout the entire winter season.

Neither the low snowfall nor the rise in prices had a noticeable impact on the tourism industry during this year's winter season. On the contrary: in February, operators of commercial accommodation reported around 65,200 more overnight stays than in the same month last year.

In addition, guests stayed longer in Vorarlberg again last month: the average length of stay was 4.51 days, which is above the average of 4.38 days over the past ten years.

Of course, the fact that February had 29 days this year had a positive effect. "That accounts for just under three percent of the booking potential," calculated Christian Schützinger, Managing Director of Vorarlberg Tourismus. But even if this outlier is taken into account, Vorarlberg is still on a very good course.

The February figures continue the positive trend of the first half of the winter season. In this period, all tourist destinations achieved gains in overnight stays. In absolute terms, the increases were between 6850 and 20,400 overnight stays.

A total of around 887,000 visits have already been recorded in the current winter season. Around 3.5 million overnight stays have been recorded. This corresponds to an increase of 6.4 percent in arrivals and 5.3 percent in overnight stays.

Big plus in the Montafon
The increase in overnight stays compared to the same period last year affects all main segments and all tourism regions. The most striking increase in overnight stays in absolute figures was in the Montafon. Around 49,600 more guests were counted here than in the same period from November 2022 to February 2023.

As expected, most guests came from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
