Priority disregarded: Senior collided with bus

Despite braking hard, a bus driver was unable to prevent a collision with a 71-year-old driver. The senior citizen drove into a junction despite being given priority. The 30 passengers were uninjured in the collision, but the driver had to be taken to hospital.

At around 10.55 p.m. on Thursday, a 55-year-old man from the Braunau district was driving a bus on the B142 Mauerkirchner Straße in the direction of Mauerkirchen. The bus was carrying around 30 passengers. At the same time, a 71-year-old man from the Braunau district was driving his car from Gewerbestraße in the direction of the B142.

Accident despite emergency braking
For an as yet unexplained reason, the driver entered the B142 - despite being given priority - and then turned left. The bus driver immediately initiated emergency braking. However, it was no longer possible to prevent a right-angled collision between the two vehicles. As a result of the violent collision, the car was thrown off the road into the ditch.

The bus came to a halt on the opposite carriageway, heavily damaged at the front. The 71-year-old was taken to hospital in Braunau with indeterminate injuries. The 55-year-old and all passengers were uninjured.
