Increase of 44 percent
More and more Carinthians are living with existential fears
Caritas alone recorded a 44 percent increase in advice and assistance.
After a separation, a Carinthian woman and her young daughter had to move to another apartment, making everyday life almost impossible to finance. Caritas helped with the start-up costs and provided food and clothing vouchers.
Inflation and rental costs
Caritas employees encounter such fates on a daily basis. "Housing is also a constant topic in social counseling due to exploding rental costs and inflation. If the rent cannot be paid, the housing is at risk. The worries and fears weigh heavily on people," says Christine Ofner, team leader of the Caritas social counseling service.
The Caritas social counseling centers in Klagenfurt, Villach and online advised and supported 2,372 people in January and February alone - 44 percent more than in the same period last year. 25,700 was distributed in these eight weeks (+24%). Caritas is therefore asking for donations for domestic aid.
