At lunchtime on Thursday in Vienna-Floridsdorf, a woman had to watch as a toddler fell from a third-floor apartment window and came to rest on a lawn.
The witness immediately alerted the emergency services. The two-year-old was given emergency medical treatment by the Vienna Professional Rescue Service and then flown to hospital in a rescue helicopter. According to the police, the girl is said to be in a stable condition.
Child was unattended
The police have since learned that the child's mother had opened the windows to air the room and left the room briefly to go to the toilet. The accident happened when the two-year-old was left unattended in the room.
The City of Vienna's child and youth welfare services were informed about the incident. Further investigations are underway into the criminal liability of the mother.
