No parking spaces: Traffic chaos in front of elementary school
Parents in Donaustadt collect parking tickets when picking up their children because there are no parking spaces. The traffic concept leaves a lot to be desired.
Donaustadt is a catchment area for families. The educational facilities are therefore full. As a result, there is a lot of traffic in front of the schools during the morning and afternoon peak. A good example is the Langobardenstraße elementary school. There is chaos in the pick-up zone in front of the school every day.
This is because there are exactly three parking spaces for around 800 pupils, who all rush in or out of the school at the same time. As a result, parents have to stop where they are not allowed to and, in the worst case, are even penalized. This happened to Jutta E. not so long ago. "I just got out of the car to wait for my child in front of the school and I got a parking ticket," complains the mother of two. It was all thanks to the failed traffic planning.
We also receive similar complaints from the Hammerfestweg elementary school. According to one mother, the police regularly have to arrive because neighbors complain about the line of cars in front of her front door. The Education Directorate says: "There is also a school for the hearing impaired there. The children are brought and collected by the transport service every day. The school management is aware of the problem, but parents have not yet approached the school with their concerns. Only then can a solution be sought."
