Missing in the forest: man rescued from freezing to death

After a pensioner with dementia set off into the forest near Metnitz (St. Veit an der Glan district) on Friday afternoon, there was still no sign of the man that evening. When the senior's daughter got wind of his absence, she immediately raised the alarm - with a happy ending.

The dog handlers from the Carinthian Samaritans saved the missing man's life. The man was finally found injured and hypothermic in a wooded area at around 8 p.m. after he had probably fallen, the Samaritans announced on Saturday.

House left without cash and co.
The pensioner's daughter had already reported in the afternoon that her father, who had dementia, had left the house without cash, documents and the insulin that was vital for him and could no longer be found. Dog handlers and emergency helpers from the rescue dog team as well as local firefighters took part in the subsequent search.

At around 8 p.m., hunters on the Vellacherberg finally discovered tracks in the snow. A rescue dog team was immediately deployed to the impassable search area and the search was successful a short time later. At temperatures of minus seven degrees, the man would probably not have survived for long.
