Flames engulf apartment: one injured

Late on Saturday evening, a fierce fire broke out in an apartment building in the 23rd district of Vienna. One person was injured. Thanks to the fire department, the worst was prevented.

When the fire department was called to Erlaaer Straße in Vienna-Liesing at around 10:30 p.m., they were met with a terrible scene: massive flames were shooting out of several windows and the roof was already starting to burn. A catastrophe was imminent.

Wearing breathing apparatus, the fire crew gained access to the stairwell and finally reached the apartment on the second floor, which was burning brightly. Extinguishing lines were deployed from outside with the help of a turntable ladder, the fire department explained in a press release. Eight vehicles and 35 firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading.

Operation lasted two hours
A high-performance fan had to ventilate the house. The roof area was scrutinized under respiratory protection, allowing several pockets of embers to be removed. The danger was finally averted at 0:30 am. There was one person in the apartment on fire - they had to be taken to hospital after receiving emergency medical treatment. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
