Car driver trapped in car after head-on crash

A serious traffic accident occurred on Monday afternoon in Montafon. For unknown reasons, an 18-year-old drove his vehicle into the oncoming lane and crashed head-on into the car of a 34-year-old man. 

The oncoming older driver, who was driving on the Montafonerstraße (L188) at around 1.45 p.m., was unsuccessful in his attempts to avoid the collision: both cars crashed into each other. The 34-year-old's vehicle was thrown off the road by the force of the impact, overturned and ended up lying on its roof. The two occupants were able to free themselves from the car.  

The 18-year-old was unable to do so. He was trapped in the vehicle after it also left the road and crashed into a wall. While the young man had to be freed by the fire department, his passenger managed to get out of the wrecked car on his own.

The two drivers and the passenger of the 18-year-old were injured but were responsive. They were taken by ambulance to the regional hospital in Feldkirch. Alcohol tests carried out on both drivers were negative.

Both cars sustained considerable material damage. They had to be towed away. The L188 was closed to all traffic in the area of the accident from 1.45 pm to 3 pm. The Bludenz fire department, an emergency helicopter, members of the Bludenz Red Cross and the Bludenz police were deployed.
