147 instead of 70 km/h: speeding car confiscated

Someone was obviously in a particular hurry and now he has to worry about his car. In Wels (Upper Austria), a speeding driver was measured at 147 km/h in a 70 km/h zone on Tuesday. The 32-year-old's car was temporarily confiscated by the authorities. An auction is now imminent.

A civil patrol carried out laser measurements on Eferdinger Straße in the city of Wels at around 1.30 p.m. on Tuesday. A car was measured there at 147 km/h - but the speed limit there is only 70 km/h. The driver's license of the 32-year-old driver from Buchkirchen was temporarily confiscated, as were the vehicle keys. Charges will follow.

And the car, a BMW, was provisionally confiscated after consultation with the LPD legal journalism service and may ultimately be auctioned off.

In August, a 17-year-old from Salzburg was speeding along the Westautobahn at almost 200 km/h. The police stopped him near Ansfelden and confiscated his vehicle. On November 20, the VW Passat was the first vehicle in Upper Austria to be finally confiscated under the new speeding law - for a modest 2000 euros.
